Diving in Indonesia

On the southernmost tip of Sulawesi’s Makassar Peninsula lies an undiscovered and undeveloped gem known as Bira. Here there are pristine beaches which disappear into the distance without another resort, building, deckchair or even person in sight. The more than a dozen world-class dive sites are home to large pelagic fish including Ocean Sunfish (Mola mola) and even hammerhead sharks. Our guests are housed in brand new bamboo bungalows which are sturdy and clean, yet in keeping with their natural surroundings. Diving, food and everything you need is included in the package prices, sometimes diving courses are even free! It’s just like diving from a liveaboard but without actually having to sleep on a boat. Instead, at any time of day or night you can choose to take a walk on the deserted beach, swim, snorkel or socialize with the other lucky guests. Gili Dive Camp is based on Gili Trawangan, on the northwest corner of Lombok in Indonesia. The island is a popular destination for modern backpackers who want to get away from motorized transport and enjoy chilling on beaches, partying, and diving in paradise. Our packages include full-board accommodation at the brand-new and extremely popular (air-conditioned) Gili Backpackers which is just 140 metres from the island’s best beach, and the same distance from Gili Divers and its fleet of boats. For people who already have accommodation on Gili Trawangan, but want to dive with the island’s most popular dive center, we can organise fun diving and courses for you. Gili Divers run several diving boats and have instructors and Divemasters who teach and guide in all the major languages. In addition, they are located right on the best beach of the island and are the only Gili dive center who can load their boats from the beach in any conditions, all year round. The Gili Viking restaurant is right on beach at the dive center and far enough away from the island’s ‘party zone’ to give guests the peace and quiet they expect on a tropical island vacation, but it’s near enough to be a pleasant walk for a night out!
